Balance & Falls Prevention
- By Gerd Laxåback
Used by physiotherapists, professionals working with older people, personal trainers, fitness instructors and sports therapists to provide exercises for people who need to improve their balance and muscular strength to help prevent falls and fractures.
To prevent falls, speed strength skills are needed, for example being able to take a quick step or to quickly grab for support. The most common risk factors for falls in older people are muscular weakness, balance disorders and a history of previous falls. Strength and balance training can help decrease the number of falls and the number of injuries caused by falls by 15% - 50%. The exercises are used for rehabilitation and general fitness.
