The Shirley Sahrmann exercises are directed at two aspects of correction. The first is to optimize the activation of specific muscles that have been identified as deficient by manual muscle testing or active motion. The second aspect is to correct performance of specific movements associated with daily activities.
The aim of the exercises is to perform all joint motions in a manner consistent with the kinesiology of the joint, intra-limb motions, inter-limb motions as well as total body motions. The exercises should be selected based on observations of movement patterns and tests of muscle performance which include length, strength, stiffness and activation factors.
